Meet one of our newest additions to the quilting tribe:
This is Hailey, one of the students in the kiddo’s classes at New Moon Textiles (I work there a couple of days a week). And she’s holding her the top to her FIRST QUILT!!
Isn’t it a wonderful explosion of happy? She even did some fussy cutting to get the right sections into the border.
Hailey and I worked together on choosing the ORANGE inner border (she came to the right person for ORANGE help, eh?) We auditioned one that was closer to the lighter ORANGE in the POW! in the upper right corner, but we decided the darker one set the center better. When I left last night Terrika (the talented, funny, and ever-so-patient kiddos’ teacher) was helping her choose some backing fabric. There was mention of perhaps a bright turquoise for the binding – this girl loves color as much as I do! I can’t wait to see it.
Bravo Hailey! Welcome to the quilt gang!!
I designed this groovy pillow for the good folks at Janome using the new 8900QCP, and they published it to their site this morning!
It uses mini-charms, those juicy little chubs of fabrics that are getting popular in the stores. I used Comma and Barcelona fabrics, both by Brigitte Heitland of Zen Chic (Moda) and Kona solids (Kaufman) as the supporting players. The pillow is 20” x 20”.
A confident beginner can make this one – it’s all straight seams – however, you will need good 1/4” accuracy as there are a few skinny pieces in there.

I got this one ready for quilt market, and completely forgot to post it here. What can I say… writing a book makes for a busy studio!
It’s quick and easy to make, and yes, I fused and machine stitched my applique. I respect hand applique but it’s just not my thing… I usually refer to it as a double-four-letter-word! The body of the quilt is based on my Loose Change pattern, but without the improv (all measurements are stated so that you can just cut and sew). It’s big lap/snuggle/almost-twin sized.
The blue is a textured background from Frond, the “white” is a tiny light gray mesh from the Architextures/Kaufman line, the red chevron is from Michael Miller, and the gold stars are from Marcia Derse/Troy.
It’s available in my store at an intro price for the download, so grab one and get sewing… July 4th is coming fast!
